Default To buy or not to buy

Hello Forum,

I just became a member because today I will be going to test drive a 2000 range rover with 70k miles on it. I am in the middle of conducting my research on these vehicles and i wanted to get your opinions about the reliability of these vehicles, i.e.-engines, body, paint, etc. Should i expect to be making significant repair cost on this car or is this specific vehicle/year dependable? Any insight would be very helpful

I've had mine for almost 2 years and haven't really had a whole lot of issues with it. They are not Hondas at all, they will give you "BS". BS= random stupid issues that come and go and sometimes don't mean anything. However, as the owner, you need to take an active role in the maintenance of the vehicle by determining what is random "BS" and what is actually a sign the vehicle needs attention.

The rovers from 1999 to 2002 have the BOSCH management system and usually have head gasket problems around 70 to 100k miles which can eventually lead to sleeve failure/block cracks, if not dealt with promptly. Unless the rover you are looking at has had it's gaskets replaced, expect to replace them soon. Other than that, just check the usual things like A/C, windows, cruise control, smooth shifting, etc. They are built like tanks and with proper maintenance last a long time.

They really are great cars, they just need an owner with a good sense of humor .

What are they asking for the rover?
