I have 1997 LR Range Rover HSE 4.6 ...with the 100 amp Magneti Marelli alternator. Can Anyone tell me if this alternator has a seperate voltage regulator that i can replace Without having to replace enire alternator unit. I am also considering replacing entire alternator with the 120 amp Marelli unit BUT i still have same question concerning the voltage regulator. Anyone know for sure?? On mine (96 4.0) the regulator is built into the alternator and it is replaced as a unit.

Most modern cars have the regulator built in, so you will need to replace the whole thing. Sorry for the bad news. You can always go to a electric motor shop and see if they will rebuild it with the amps you want, I have always wanted to do that but did not want to wait.
