Default Painted Wheels....

Due to the amount of road rash from the PO, and also in my quest to make my DII look like the Original Kalahari concept shown at all the auto shows, plus a sprinkling of the older XD's, I decided to change my grey Typhoon wheels to black and of course as I am typing this, I discover that my camera is dead and the only pic I have is a cell phone shot of the spare. So I'll just post that for now, and get more pics up later.

Here's what I'm going for...I didn't go for the silver trim round the black because I wanted to cover up some of the curb rash and just make them completely black.

Here's how the spare looks mounted....

After sanding and prepping I used...

-2+ Coats of Duplicolor self-etching primer (olive green was the darkest I could find)
-3+ Coats of Rustoleum Sandable primer (black)
-4+ Coats of Rustoleum High Performance wheel paint (satin black)
-3+ Coats of Duplicolor high gloss clear coat (clear, obviously)

We'll see how it holds up after getting some time to really cure and harden. And I know powder coating would be the way to go for a longer more durable finish, but this was easy and CHEAP so I fully expect to touch up and eventually have to redo this job.

Thanks! Hopefully I can find my camera chord tonight and get the rest of the pictures up! The stripe is still on the negotiation table with my wife, but I am working on it

Default finally a pic!

So my digital camera crapped out, so I'm stuck with cell phone pics, but here's a decent shot of the finished product. I am SO happy with the way they turned out. Still trying to decide if I'm going to Dremel through the paint around the lip to match the concept vehicle better.
