I might have the first case for using my Discovery to provide aid to those in need. The people in this case happen to have 4 feet and wagging tails.
We had a line of strong thunderstorms that came through on Sunday night and dumped a ton of rain on us. There was already a lot of snow that was melting, and that combined with the rain caused some major flooding in and around the area. One of the places that got flooded was the city of Mt. Gilead, Ohio. One of the hardest hit places was the Morrow County Dog Shelter which is located on the County Fairgrounds. It was caught in the midst of a ferocious flash flood. This all happened in the morning, between 3-7am.
After staying up all night tracking the storms, I finally got to sleep about 6am. I slept until about 2pm, and got up with my girlfriend and went to survey the damage. We wanted to check the Shelter since Alyssa said there was a 'creek' that flowed directly behind the shelter. This is what we saw.
As you can see, the 'creek' was about 200 yards over it's bank, if not more.
The way it looked to us with the truck and everything, Sarina the Warden was still there. We wanted to see if there was anything that could be done, so I locked the Center Diff and went to it. In between the two clips, I had waded over to yell inside to see if Sarina was still inside, but she wasn't. The truck was abandoned, her keys were still in the door; she was in one hell of a hurry to get to those dogs after the firefighters got the power shut off.
Sadly, 3 of the smallest dogs died in the flash flood, but 19 more were saved. They are being housed in a private barn while the flood recedes.
There is going to be a cleanup at this shelter this weekend, supposedly Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, I have to work on Saturday, but I will definitely be there on Sunday.
Even if my Rover only takes me there and home, she's still going to be there. Whether she helps transport volunteers, dogs, or supplies, she's going be there. If I have to cross another flood, I wouldn't trust anything less than what she's designed for:

Well, there have been a couple of setbacks. Even the best laid plans if mice and men often go awry.
The long and the short:
The shelter may be flooded again because we've got a bunch of rain falling.
The shelter may be declared a loss by the insurance company.
I have a manadatory 6th day at work (sunday).
Damn.
