Default Road trip to San Diego California

So i just found out that i'm getting stationed at MCAS Miramar, near down town San Diego, and planning a road trip from columbia sc. I've only got a couple places marked to stop so far: white water rafting in nc, some mountain passes to drive through in CO, and the grand canyon, before i get to my final destination. I need some ideas on places that i shouldn't miss on my drive across the country. Here's what the map looks like so far. The route isn't set in stone, and can be altered, if i want to go somewhere a little out of the way. Also, what should i bring with me for the trip (disco wise). I plan on bringing an extra belt, maybe radiator hose?, anti freeze. Also anything major i should do to the car before the drive? Changing the oil before the drive out there.

Dude that is going to be awesome.
I am jealous.
Change all the fluids and make sure everything is greased before you go.
Not knowing what shape your Rover is in I would say thats all that needs to be done.
