Default Volvo crash avoidance fail

This is kinda funny. All the more reason to pay attention and not rely on technology to keep you safe. http://www.wired.co.uk/videos/wired-...es-new-s60-car

I am telling you man, with all of these "keep you safe" gadgets on cars now and more in the future people are going to be in a world of hurt when the computer fails and they crash and die because they dont know how to make a emergency maneuver.
Whats going to happen when the stability control on that 8 yr old SUV throws a fault code and wont work and the mom with the kids in the back hits a patch of ice and spins out?
Shes going to roll over.
Whats going to happen when the Ford Escape self parallel parking fails?
Or the adaptive cruise control?
They are going to install data recorders in all new cars, most already have them, if you have OnStar, Qualcom (owners of OnStar) keeps track of the last 30 seconds of whatever your car is/was doing (speed, location, brake or gas, cruise, lights on, wipers, etc.) and all of that black box and satellite info is admissible in a court of law.

Most people have absolutely no knowledge of controlling a car *now* without all the tech. It's going to be a nightmare.

Now... about Onstar: I wonder how many recordings of rig rockin' they got.

I almost like the idea of a black box in the car. There are so many asshats driving around here it would be nice to have some proof when the POS Escort with previous body damage does something completly stupid. I agree that this is going to become a huge issue in 15-20 years when this technology starts to wear out.

One of the nice things about OnStar is that when you dont make your car payment they shut off the fuel pump so the car wont run, does not matter if you bought it new or used or even if your OnStar account is active or not.

I think most the new technology is stupid. It makes us seem so lazy. You have rain activated windscreen wipers... thats great, but when happens when they fail? Eventually no one is going to know how to turn the dang things on and highway driving will be a disaster in the rain.

One technology I would love to see is "automotive texting blocker". It's probably impossible, but we've had two teens die here recently in head-on collisions because they were trying to text and drive. Police really can't enforce a no-texting law because its hard to see, so wouldn't it be great to disable texting inside vehicles all together? Maybe some genius can invent it... it could save lives.
