I have been looking into getting a code reader for the disco. I have seen a few models but wasn't sure which one to get. I wasn't sure that if the proffesional one with the real time data would be usefull for me. I am on a budget so if I don't need it I can put that money towards the disco. If anyone can recommend a good scanner I would appreciate it.

Wal_mart sells a nice one for $100, Harbor Frieght sells cheap ones for $35.
Amazon.com also sells them, any of them will do what you want, read and clear codes, it is better to get one that will tell you what the code means on the screen so that you dont have to look it up.
But just buy the best that you can afford.

I think they are only for the CEL and not the three amigos. I am just wondering if there are any benefits from having the real time log. I think that I want one that will just read and clear the codes like the equus 3110.

I am not sure that the "freeze frame" feature is useful for someone that wants to read / clear codes, so going with a low cost device is not a bad idea.
I am still looking for a low cost scanner that can recognize the SLABS ECU and clear the 3 amigos codes in addition to the engine and transmission. Haven't found one yet.

You will never find one.
It takes a special scanner with special software to read ABS codes.
Your best bet would be to look for PC software and a OBD to USB cable to hook your car to your laptop.
Nanocom is a low cost option for ABS, SLS, ALARM and the BCU in the Disco 2. http://web.nanocom.it/default_i.cfm Its "designed" for the TD5 as it also does the diesel (swearing, sorry!!) engines.
I just got one recently, god its fun to play with all the options etc, my dashboard now has some new lights and chimes now and I have reconfigured some of the options in the BCU as well.
The good thing is its "upgradable", as they add more modules, you just update the firmware to get them to work. The ACE is currently in development now.
Its very reassuring now to have complete home diagnostics available to me, it's a "stand alone" unit which also does "live" data and it can be used with a pc or laptop and a windows based software.
