X2. It can be done but you can get a lot better for your money and time.

the 5.3 has about 80 more lbs torque than a rover 4.0. That would make the tranny the weak link considering that the diffs should already be upgraded if you have tires and go off road. That leads you to two choices:

1. put about 40 more lbs torque to the stock tranny than you should and hope it holds using an adapter plate

2. adapt a chevy tranny to the stock transfer which I believe there is a write up somewhere on d-90.

#2 would put you half way to having a nice diesel in dollars

#1 could be done for under 3 grand.

Just my opinion

So it has as much torque as the 4.6?

Ok that video proves absolutely nothing, anybody can walk around a Disco with a video camera and dub in any exhaust sound that you want.
Now had he opened the hood and ontop of the engine it said LS1 or some such to prove that it was not a LR engine then I would be alittle more inclined to believe it.
But as that video stands right now...it means nothing.

And I still dont know why you would want a Chevy engine in your Rover, makes no sense at all.

depending on year, approx. 340/320 tq/hp

I know that my tahoe weighs as much as my 03 disco and will run circles around it and get a lot better mileage. I still have no complaints on the power from the 4.6. Just responding to the post. The 3.9 and 4.0 motors (same motor) were lacking.

There is no way a Tahoe gets better MPG than a Disco, any Disco.
A Tahoe gets what, 16 MPG expressway?

16 in town and almost twenty on road trips. 150k now. doesn't burn a drop and no leaks. No dash lights either. I'm not changing my disco, but the idea of someone combining things is not bad. Keep in mind that the tahoe is not in 4x4 at all times.
