Question SRS light... strangle me now, or help.

no leaks, no drips, no knocks, no ticks....

just one annoying as heck SRS light that has been on for the past 15k miles that i drove in the 9 months i owned my truck.

i checked the grounds, they are good.

is there any way to read the SRS codes, i know they are manufactuer specific to the device, and i know i can go to the stealership...

please tell me there is another way. $120 diagnostic to find out that its a seat belt that i can get for $10 from a wrecked disco, will make my stomach turn in knots...

should i just throw a seat belt in it and pray..

i'm not a fan of throwing parts.

hints? ideas? SRS family secrets passed down from generartion to generation?

For peace of mind that the airbag WILL go off during a collision, I'd take it to the dealer. You can't put a price on safety....

Have you buckled and unbuckled the passenger seat belt a dozen times or so?

yes. at least 50 times in a row. just praying that it would be the sensor....

i honestly think its the driver side seat belt pre-tensioner. i might just get one and throw it in there.

yeah, light's been winking at me for a few months...

I'm contemplating the electrical tape fix.

actually the cause might be a pretensioner. Not completely bad just stretched. turn it off and move the wire so the connector isn't as tight on both sides. or you could disconnect them, cut the tie strap holding them in place and then let it hang to see if it goes off and then give the thing some slack with a new tie strap.

agreed... i will investigate the pretensioner... but does the light go off automatically or does it need to be cleared by an SRS scanner?

I had this issue during one of the rare times I had a passenger in my truck. I had a pressure switch code according to the computer. All I had to do was clean the connectors out and restart the truck. Code went away and has never come back.
