Default Goodyer DuraTracs 255/55-19

Owners LR4s rejoice! We can now get an off road tire in a 255/55-19 size!

Better grab some while you can as I am sure they will disappear in a few years.

That doesn't make sense. What makes a offroad tire is not the tread style, but a tall sidewall so it can be run a low tire pressures, and tough sidewalls so they don't get cut. They could make a 55 profile mud tire, but an aired-down 75 profile all-season would do better. I also noticed the 255/55-19 "does not meet the industry's severe snow service standards." While I appreciate the Duratrac may be the most aggressive-looking tire in that size, I don't see it working as an offroad tire.

Here's a video of a guy actually trying to offroad with 19 inch wheels (in a Discovery 4):

While he delivered a bit more of an optimistic commentary (because JLR provided the Discovery gratis), you can see his utter frustration, especially toward the end of the second part. Personally, I think it's completely absurd. You might as well be conveyed in a six-thousand-pound litter (Litter (vehicle) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) by a half-dozen slaves.

Actually for an unmodified LR4 it did not too bad. Looking at the tread of the Duratrac you can see it is set up more as a mud/soft earth tire which is exactly what we get out here in Western Canada. I believe they ran 18" Duratracs in the G4 challenge and they hjeld up ok. I have used duratracs in similar profiles on other vehicles and they are not too bad. While not a true off road tire with bead locks you can air down to about 20 psi and if there is a Kevlar sidewall they hold up pretty well. another option is to get special spacers, downsize the calipers to LR3 spec and you can run a 16-17" tire. I don't think many weekend warriors are going to go through all that..

These tires will help someone who wants to tackle some light duty offroading. Anything more extreme (like the video) and of course you are better suited to building a trail only machine.

G4 Built LR3 running 19" Range Rover Sport wheels?

Thumbs up 255/55/19 Duratrac

Just put a set on, so far in a few months I like everything about them for all world use. Also put on ebc hd orange brakes and rotors. The combination is awesome. 2012 LR4, 18k miles.

Ash, how has those tires been holding up. How is the noise as opposed to the street tires.

Had the Duratrac most of a year, wear is great, slightly louder than a street tire, great in all Colorado weather conditions. I really like them for on/off road work.

Thank you for responding good sir. Was looking into the Duratrac when my street tires burn out. My big thing is noise and wear.

I had the Duratracs on my old D2 in 275/65/18 and they were great, low noise, good wear, really good traction on the trail.

I have them on an '08 Range Rover and a '17 Mercedes GLS. They do whine a bit at highway speed but that's the only downside. 50k warranty is nice to have too.
