Default How important are deflated tires in mud?

i never tried to deflate tires in mud, does it help, especially on hills?

Is on mud better to drive on second speed that tires clean them self or slowly to not dig one self too deep?

What size and type of tire do you have, do they have an off road tread or street tread?
How much mud are you talking about?

well you should deflate your tires if your going to be off road. as long as its not a low profile tire. a street tire can be deflated. but not as much as an off road tire.

the idea behind airing down is to create a bigger foot print by the tire. also it dose make the ride not jostle you around as much. but you do have to be careful tho. a aired down tire is easier to pop off the rim an end up as a flat. so you do have to keep in mind you do have to keep mindful of what your tires are doing. so some air out can help. too much an it will do the opposite.

when i was still on all terrain tires i didn't air down much past 18-20psi my mud tires i take them down to 15-18 psi. i have seen guys run lower but they had bead locks.

yes you don't want your tires to dig too much. because after a certain point your going to be stuck. so if your going to be going off road an are new at it. you should go with atleast one other truck. an its always a good idea to go in pairs or more when off road. i dont often go by my self. even tho the areas i go i can do easily by my self . but crap happens an its nice to have others there to help. especially if some one gets hurt

thank You for the help.

Mike: 255/70/16 Cooper Discoverrer S/T. Mud is about a lot :-), it means tires are already clogged if not spinned fast enough. Actually this is how tire looked like when i actually got out:

i was surprised it was yet moving at all. When i was going above max speed on 1st gear they were cleaning them self but then i was digging more my self deep. On the end there was some hill i couldnt get on to. Would like to know if i would made it with deflated tires. I had to turn and use smaller slope.

MountainOx: i understand that, i just wanted to know if anybody can judge the importancy from "never do without" through "heaven/hell difference" to "it just barely helps in mud"

your tires i would not air down. for you not going to make a noticeable difference. if you had a larger tire diameter. it would make a noticeable difference.

bigger width an diameter is a good thing. to a certain extent.

a 33 x 12 inch tire is a pretty good all around size. the problem is you have to buy a metric size. like a 285 70 r16 .
