I've heard awesome things about the Cooper Discoverer A/Ts, but I've never used them personally. I actually thought about a set for myself, but I've decided to buy muds instead.

I picked up a set of 235-85-16 mud terrains from tire recappers.com, $120 each $600 for 5 with free shipping. Put 7oz of air soft pellets in each rim and they are smooth and aggressive. Just waiting on the snow......

Any mud tire is a bad choice. Good snow performance comes from a combination of well shaped lugs and siping. Mud tires typically have no siping. I have Goodyear Dura-Tracs which have worked awesome. I have also used Nitto Terragrapplers which were also fantastic. They also looked like they were barely used at 30,000 miles. When I bought my truck it had BFG A/T's on it and they were terrible in the snow.

The two I know that are snow-rated (snowflake symbol) are the Cooper AT/W and the Nokian Rotiiva. They look fairly similar on paper. The Coopers are what I would get for my LR3 if they fit - they seem to be just slightly too large for the 18" wheels.

The Dynapro seem to get good marks for snow, as do the Falken Wildpeak A/T, Kuhmo Road Venture, and Nexen Rodian. There are probably others as well.

Just put a set of BFG ATs on the Disco. I've had a few sets previously on other trucks and always had good luck on snow and ice with them, including plowing. These seem to be everything I was expecting as far as snow traction so far.
