Default UPDATE: Over revving diesel defender=cracked block?

Hey guys/gals, a client of mine has brought his defender now smoking heavily(white) for service. Upon asking a few questions, could over revving a diesel crack the block? It runs poor, smokes and knocks. Seems like 2 of 4 cylinders are not doing their job. Any insight or questions/comments ? ThanksUPDATE. Just for your eyes only, and some info as well. Firstly, it’s an ‘89 from defender with a 2016 UK setup. Ford 2.4 Duratorq engine, comes in the Mondeo(fusion) and the Transit series vans. Over revving the engine will definitely damage the engine. The top end had snapped 2 rockers themselves getting lodged between the can and scoring it(not major) as well as what looks to be a bent valve spring with damaged lands. The clutch (friction plate) took damage as well, snapped 2 springs and bent the bosses they sit between, thus damaging the springs and bosses. I’ll snap pics tomorrow

Cracked and leaking oil. Left side of engine. Between the aluminum mating surface of the head. Going to compression test tomorrow to see what’s up.

Maaan. You don’t even know. I pulled the engine out twice hadn’t I realized it had a dual mass flywheel on there, after everything was buttoned up

Ouch.

Diesels don’t like RPM that’s for sure. That was a expensive lesson

Took some more pictures. Clutch and valvetrane damage. I’ll disassemble the lower end when there is time. There are 4 pictures this time. 2 clutch pics and 2 upper valve carnage. Firstly, the clutch springs, the inner smaller 4, 2 are collapsed (1 more so than the other), as for the larger springs, big gaps on both sides and flat spots from banging in the boss area. The third picture shows the rocker brace assembly intake side with 2 broken intake rockers. Last picture is the carnage, the rocker arms were slinging around cracking the side of the head..........also forgot, the new clutch springs on the friction plate were tight, no movement at all.
