Recently dealt with a tacoma.
A trd off road will appraise for 42k with a 37k MSRP
A trd pro will appraise for 45k with a 48k MSRP I sold private party for 53k.

Also JCW Mini with a 45k MSRP appraised for 17k and a Cooper S with a 30k msrp appraises for 14.6k
Every model/car is different but in general I think they are relying on the same "general" model and ignoring the actual initial purchase prices. I.E high option models are heavily disadvantaged.

My experience, along with others on this forum, are totally different. Like I said, last month, MY '21 P300 110 with 8,000 miles, $57,000 sticker, Carmax paid $71,000.. Dealer offered me $55,000

2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro with 13,000 miles.........$48,000 sticker..........Carmax paid $53,000 in February of this year. You need to come out to my local Carmax!!!

I think this is spot on…

And Carmax is somehow hanging on with their model. But I’m seeing dealers definitely are trying to get cars back down to “normal pricing” on trades but are listing for above pricing. Double dipping if you will…

Actually, your experience perfectly proves what MaxMK8 said. I.e., you sold a very low options Defender (57k MSRP) and got $16k more than MSRP for it. Then you sold a high-options 4Runner ($48k sticker) and got only 5k more than MSRP for it. Hence, the TRD Pro is disadvantaged compared to the base Defender.

And to compare Defender to Defender, my high-option 2022 110 ($80k MSRP) got an offer from VROOM of $71,000, coincidently exactly what your 110 with a $23,000 lower MSRP got from CarMax.

Let's take this point by point.......

First of all, if you noticed there is a 2 year model difference and a 5,000 mile usage difference between the low option '21 Defender and the nicely equipped '19 4Runner.

Next, the 4Runner was sold in February versus the Defender was just sold. The supply chain crisis and the chip shortage were just rearing their ugly heads back in February, when the 4Runner was sold, versus now, when the Defender was sold. I can only imagine what the offer might have been if the 4Runner had been a '21 and was appraised/sold by Carmax today.

Finally, I received a $55,000 offer from my JLR dealer on the Defender and a $53,000 offer from Vroom.

The point here is Carmax is paying crazy prices.

7 of them on the CarMax site for crazy amounts. I would bet a bullbar that they will all be sold w/in two weeks....
