Fuel Economy Data

FYI: I just learned that you can download the your trip data using the LR Remote app. I've got the 110/P400 and taking a look at my last 300 trips which ranged from 1 to 300 miles and average speeds from 5 to 70 mph, I found my sweet spot is around 45 mph for which I get about 22 mpg. This aligns with what I'd expect. (A few of these trips I was towing a 6,200 lb trailer - I think those are the data points around 13 mpg at 40 - 60 mph area. If I were to remove those, my sweet spot would be a bit better.)

That's interesting.

l have the diesel MHEV here in the U.K. and seem to be averaging around 26mpg in City driving.

For me I've found that the number of start and stops on a trip has more of an impact than speed. Driving in the city with a stop every block is horrible. Driving in my parents small town with long stretches of no stop signs is dramatically higher mpg.

Interesting observation. While I'm sure stop-and-go driving will lead to worse fuel economy, I don't have data that characterizes that attribute. But I did plot mpg as a function of trip length figuring there may be some correlation. I was surprised to see in my case, much less so than speed.

I didn't know this level of nerdery was available in the APP. Many thanks.

Just dowloaded my data but I was hoping for some cool plots. Just a csv file.

Yeah - have to play with it in Excel.

For my P300 my results over 300 journeys was:

Avg Distance: 9.9 Miles
Avg MPG: 16.1
Avg Speed: 29.5

If I constrain the data to only drives that have an average speed over 40mph I am getting 17.9 mpg

If I constrain the data to only drives that are longer than 20 miles I'm getting 18.1 mpg

I have one data point of 23 mpg that was on a short 14 mile drive. That is my best MPG over these 300 drives.

My P300 has a factory style roof rack with a fairing, a lunch box, and a ladder. It is not a sleek machine.

When I did not have any of that gear attached I had several entries of 24-26mpg on long runs.

All that said I didn't buy a Defender for the gas mileage, but it's good to know none the less.
