Default Navigation - Spoken Street names?

Hello, I just picked up my defender ordered in June. White with with Urban pack and offroad package. It took me a couple of days but I just noticed the navigation system does not say the street names when providing guidance. Can this be be turned on? Just seems strange in this day and age. Thank in advance. Joe

Yes, I do believe I saw such an option in the satnav settings, a "Natural Voice Guidance", or something similar, that needs to be turned on in the voice submenu. Don't know for sure if it spells street names because, to be honest, I have yet to use the built-in satnav, Android Auto with Google maps or Waze works so well and I am so used to it, it's hard to give it up.

Thanks for the quick reply, I’ll re-check the settings tomorrow.

I like the built in GPS for convenience around town. Thanks again for the suggestion.

I just drove around a bit around my neighborhood with the GPS directing me back home. No spoken name, even with that Natural Voice Guidance option turned on, just "turn left at the end of the road", etc. I live in the boonies so I guess it's possible the system may only spell out major street names and highways / freeways, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

I believe you have to us "US English" for the language. There was a similar issue we talked about 2 months ago.

I tested the factory satnav this morning again, on a longer drive. Even with everything turned on in the settings, no street names are spelled out by the system, sorry. Freeway exit numbers only. The maps and directions are very detailed, and one good thing about the built-in GPS is that, if you have the HUD, turn directions inclusive of street names pop up on the windshield and are quite visible unless you wear polarized sunglasses.

I am a big fan of Andriod Auto. IMO, it is lightyears ahead of internal systems.

Thanks for the responses. I checked the US English and no luck. I am just surprised that spoken street names feature is not available. Joe

Hello, I have spoken street names working. I am not certain what did it. Here is what I did, connected to home WiFi, announcement frequency set to high, natural language guidance on, mirror info panel( no idea what this is) on and satellite set to on. Just an FYI. Joe

That did it (I think announcement frequency set to high is the option that enables spoken street names.) Like the name implies though, the lady inside the dash becomes awfully chatty in that mode. I think I liked her better when she didn't talk so much, despite the somewhat more vague directions... Then again, I am married, so I might get used to it eventually. For now I will keep using Android Auto with Google maps.
