Seriously? I can remove that "apparatus"? And then put on 19's? Now I will really have to crawl under and grub about if that might work. I just want to make sure that it's not part of my air suspension is all! (I really don't like the stock wheels personally, as they are a bit boring and "stick out too much" which will rub on rocks and etc.) I'am a good driver, but you know, I can just see airing down the current tires even just a bit ....and suddenly...you are left with nothing more than a cantaloupe rind for tires. Thank you for the info. I'll be checking how to do, checking back on this thread too for ideas. I still need to look at what offsets for aftermarket wheels. The OEM +41 is a strange number. I like a couple +35's offsets....I'm sure some thread here will help with that. Again, TY for the info
Hi, Did you find out what the purpose of that hockey puck type thing is for and were you able to remove it with no issue and get the rims installed? I have a P300 with factory 20" rims and trying downsize to 18"'s for the winter but my P300 also has that same thing on the front wheels.

The aluminum “hockey puck” pieces (actually like curved half pucks) are simple bolt-on, bolt off jobs.
They are installed on P300s that run 20” wheels because the P300s run smaller brakes than the P400s, so when running the larger wheels, there is a larger empty space inside of the rim opposite the caliper.
The thinking was that mud could potentially fill and pack into this area during off-roading, possibly resulting in the wheel becoming unbalanced… so they bolted on the puck to fill in some of the space.
The puck is not needed on P300s that run 18” wheels, as the empty space opposite the caliper is small enough that LR engineers didn’t feel there was a threat of unbalancing due to packed mud… so those trucks do not come fitted with them.
I removed my P300’s factory 20” wheels (Style 5098) and put on the factory 18” alloys (Style 5094)… the only modification necessary was the removal of the pucks.

This was a really helpful bit of information. Thanks also for sharing the visuals, your D90 looks great. I made the rookie mistake of ordering mine with the 19" wheels; I'll definitely be downsizing so that I can get a more aggressive tire.

It's a rookie mistake only if you own a P300. If you have a P400, you did the best you could... I have a P400 (D110) and the 255/65R19 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs are turning out to be surprisingly good tires, actually - thank goodness for that, since there are no suitable alternatives for off-roading. Not quite ready to downsize the rear brake calipers to fit 18s, may do so after my factory warranty is up.
