Recover Eyes
 

I have a First Addition on order:

It has no recovery eyes. I see from the model configuration website that the X model comes with two recovery eyes at the rear bumper.

Can the X Model recovery eyes be ordered as separate parts and can they be added to the First Addition rear bumper after delivery?
Will there be front recover eyes or hooks made available from Land Rover or from aftermarket retailers?

Is there an aftermarket product line already available for the new Defender?

Are you talking about recovery points? Tow hooks? Secondly, are they actually producing a Defender without recovery points? I find that hard to believe but I believe you. Got any photos of the area you are describing? These are not even on the roads yet so I doubt there are any aftermarket accessories even available.

The First Addition model of the 2020 Defender does not come with recover eyes or tow hooks. The “eyes” are not hooks but loops, so perhaps points is the correct term. They’re hooks on my two Wrangers, two at the front bumpers, one under the rear bumpers.

The X Model of the 2020 Defender comes from the factory with two eyes (points) in black at the rear bumper (orange ones are an option).

The First Addition model appears to have knockouts in the rear bumper so I am asking if they can be added with factory or after market eyes after delivery.

I find no information about a front recover hook or eye being available although a winch mounted under the front bumper will be a late option so there evidence to suggest the front has a location or locations for recovery hooks.

If there are no rear recovery points you can always attach a D-Shackle to the trailer hitch. They are very effective for a recovery point. I don’t know that recovery points could be added afterwards since they are usually part of the vehicles frame. I believe that is correct maybe someone can correct me. Aren’t the recovery points on your Wrangler incorporated to the frame. Other words, they cannot be removed right? Congrats on the order either way. Can’t wait to see it when it arrives.

I suspect the recovery points will be the same as the D5, center front and back. May be behind a valence.

Correct, the Wrangler recovery hooks are attached to the frame but bolted on. They can be removed. The new Defender is unibody however so the recovery points must be attached to reinforced body members as there is no separate frame.

Good point about the trailer hitch, I’ll have to look into what hitch prep coms with they car.

No 2020 Defender manuals to be found on line but no surprise there given the vehicle has just started general production. I have the recover eye questions into my dealer but here again it may be too early for answers from the parts/service departments.

On the front the recovery point is similar to the D5, right in the center but a little low and tucked in. At least not covered by a valence, so ready to go. I highlighted it on the picture.

On the rear it probably has the same crossbar that attaches to the chassis (similar to D5) behind the bumper area. The crossbar can have a tow receiver with the recovery point on it, or has a valence you will need to remove to get to the recovery point. Highly recommend to get these at order time, if you can order with the recovery points and/or tow hitch, as they get messy to add later. Haven't seen good rear pictures to see if the stock recovery point is hidden or not.
