Scrambling sound on 2020 Defender when accelerating
 

Hello!

Im new to the community and would like to see if you guys can help me with a problem on my 2020 Defender 110.

While accelerating (can hear it on the video), there's like a scrambling sound coming from the steering wheel area. For me it seems like if there are two cables loose.

What do you guys think? Has it happened to any of you?

I have the same thing on my 23 V8. Squeeze the plastic around the display, to the left of the tachometer and it will stop. It’ll come back on your next drive tho lol

I have the same thing on my 2022. The first several times I heard it I thought it was electrical short circuit type of thing. Very erratic for when it would happen. One day I just happened to touch the plastic display cover and it stopped, that's when I realized it was just an annoying squeak and not something bigger.

I've found two solutions for mine... One is a firm slap on the top left of the dashboard usually stops it. The other more permanent is wedging a small piece of folded paper or foam into the gap where the upper part of the display cover goes into the frame. It's not visible.

I now have to find a long term solution.

Any new ideas for this? Wedging a piece of paper didn't do the trick.

That's too bad it didn't work for you as I know how annoying that sounds is. If you take it into the dealership please post what they say. Since the wedged paper works for me and isn't noticeable, I'd rather not have then tearing anything apart on mine.

I have a 2023 Defender 130 which I picked up in February. Not long after I got it, I started hearing this annoying noise coming from my drivers side speaker. Other things were happening with the sound system too - like speakers going out, the fade/balance control working opposite, not at all working and several other quirks. The sound from the speaker though, sounds like pieces of Styrofoam rubbing against each other. its terrible.
I have had my car in the service department over 6 times for this issue, and it is currently there now. The first few times they said they did a software update and fixed it. Nope. I can't even remember what else they did - except the last time they replaced the entire Amplifier and claimed that was it. A day later it was still doing it.
This is now a LEMON under the law. The GM of the dealership called me and begged for one more chance - which is why they have my car right now. I have told my service guy over and over they need to replace the speaker but he argues with me and talks down to me and has basically infuriated me to the point that I hate the car now. I mean, I love the way it looks and drives, but I just gave up my 2014 RR Autobiography which I drove for 10 years and loved! There are so many stupid quirks in LR vehicles.

They offered to come pick up my car this time, and bring me a loaner to use (which they are not doing MOST of the time, apparently loaners are not easy to get these days). They were supposed to be here at 11am on Friday.
TWO, yes TWO, loaner cars (first was an evoque and the second was same as my car, a defender 130) were being driven to my house (one at a time) and made it as far as my neighborhood when they BOTH broke down (something with a coolant issue). The THIRD loaner car finally made it to me at 1:58pm on Friday (3 hours later). WTF
speachless.
The loaner (discovery) I am in now, had only 57 miles on it. Guess they decided to stop messing around.

Update: SOLVED.

For you SoCal folks, I took it to Land Rover Mission Viejo.

They (somehow! Amazing for Land Rover!) confirmed the sound on their test drive and then secured the trim piece on the instrument cluster.

Cluster feels very solid now where it had a ton of flex before, and the sound is gone.

I am still waiting on parts for mine.
They admitted this is a nationwide issue. At first, my service guy wanted me to come get my car and wait for a software update. I laughed and said you cannot fix a physical problem with code. I refused to come get my car, so eventually, after 2 weeks of driving the loaner, they called me to come get my car back, saying the new parts would take 2 weeks (which is about now, I think). They said they ordered a new speaker.
I will let them know about the trim piece you mentioned, but I really think my issue is with the speaker.
