Service has to drive it 60+ miles?
 

This seems kind of weird. Brought my car in because the car had check engine light. Error code P0128. They said they replaced the Coolant Thermostat.

but they need to keep it for another day and said they will need to drive it around for awhile - 60+ miles so they can make sure everything is in order. That just sounds weird to me… no?

That seems excessive. My ‘22 has been in service for 2 weeks (brake issues) and shows just 20 miles driven. I’ve been monitoring it using the Remote app.

Ask them why they need to drive it that much. Maybe they have a good answer.

I did. He rattled off a bunch of things like burping the coolant and something about running the car to test emissions. He says it was typical. 🤷‍♂️

They need to re-set the monitors for emissions testing and that takes some driving. Otherwise they will get multiple errors when hooked up for emissions. I had a jeep that I sold that need a smog to go with it. I had disconnected the battery and I had to go through this whole routine to get the monitors to reset for the smog test.

If you have InControl, see where they drove it and when. Land Rover West Houston took mine on a breakfast run to McDonald’s and I busted them on it. Never got an apology. If it happens again with a dealer, I’m calling the police and declaring it stolen. Don’t put up with up nonsense and demand an explanation. 60 miles is excessive.

Definitely. A friend once was sitting in a fast food drive up lane and thought the car in front of him looked familiar, but he had just bought it and taken it in for some dealer tweaks and wasn’t sure if it was his. He followed it back to the dealership and lo and behold, it was his. I would be suspicious, too.

reading the replies in the thread makes me realize how littel people understand things and how quickly they go off the deep end. the dealership isnt STEALING your car and joyriding it. you should always test drive a customers car even if its for an hour, and especially for coolant issues and clearing codes. the things the service dept must say about all of you when you call and go all conspiracy theory about their trip to mcdonalds must be entertaining. WGAF if they take your car to Mcd 's? the point is to RUN the engine and as long as possible means you dont have a problem then come back and blame them. otherwise FIX IT YOURSELF.

WGAF if they take it to McDonalds? I do. Don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want some guy driving my Defender, eating French fries and slurping a shake while sitting in MY drivers seat. I don’t do it, and I think it’s fair to say no one else should be doing it. This is not a one off situation. I’ve seen the video of a guy tracking his Corvette through his locator app doing 100+ mph with two morons from the dealership who decided to take it for a joyride. I’m sure it happens more often than it’s discovered.

The C8 incident from 2021 is the first one I thought of too, I also saw another one of a C7 that was also taken for a joyride last year, so this is not an uncommon thing.
