Rocky Gap Spring Mountain camping trip

My friend flew in from back east so we took a pretty epic 70 mile road trip from Las Vegas to Pahrump via the spring mountains pass. We camped half way and detoured at the end to see the lower valley instead of getting back on pavement.

The Rover did excellent with zero hiccups. Temps were in the triple digits during the day. 40's at night. Despite the slow crawling uphill and the fact that it was fully loaded it never ran hot. We went of the path a ways and found a great camping spot on a high ridge.

Thanks guys. It was a great trip but really scary. The entire time I had no cell signal. Between the two of us we had 3 phones on 3 major networks. Zero signal for 2 days. If something happened I would have been really screwed. Especially on the second day when we went off exploring. I got lucky. I need to get at very least my CB radio hooked up incase of emergency. It was nice to disconnect for awhile and just enjoy being out there. I had enough food and water for a week. Enough tools and spare parts to do most field repairs. 2 spare tires. Hilift jack. Come-along. Still a bit scary. We didn't see another person the whole time until we got closer to pavement.

Come down here where 1hr out of a city is a cell black hole, you can be out of range for days or even weeks. My phone is off once i rech the bush and then rely on UHF radios for comms.

That's sounds really appealing. Although not sure I'd drive a Land Rover solo in that case. Haha. Id really love to go there.

I rarely go out solo but if i do i have a winch and recovery gear and dont go hard.
