Winter Romp 2021

So the first rover event of 2021, and the first one I had gone to since 2020. Romp last year was right before the world went sideways.

So my trip started out a lot like normal aside from packing masks and hand sanitizer to go with the road snacks. This trip I was in my Dad's F150 for the MPG improvement unloaded and loaded.

The drive was going well, till the rain, fog, freezing rain and snow. I quickly learned my Dad's F150 tires were not as good as I could have hoped for but I slowed down and soldiered on.

Than thankfully I rolled in to Buffalo to the Lucky8 world headquarters.

This sexy beast is what greeted me.

I then hooked up the trailer I had purchased from my buddy shortly after he rolled in with his Range Rover Sport.

So with the paperwork handled on the trailer we loaded up and got on the road to Romp.

I was very lucky to be loaned the Lucky8 D5 for the Romp weekend adventure. So I got to spend a lot of time in the D5 and learn a lot about in both on and off road.

I have to say some of the new tech in the Disco 5 is pretty baller

An overnight stop for a few hours rest and we hit the road at O dark 30 for Romp.

After 5 short hours we were in Waterville, we had to stop and take in a few sights and grab some trail grub.

We had to check out the Old Bob In, the sight of such debauchery over the years

Then it was time to head out to the trails

Just like that the time on the trails was over and we were on the road back to Buffalo.

The road home was as determined to kill me as the road there. I raced through West Virginia staying just ahead of an Ice Storm.

I made it back home in time for my daughter's birthday and just like that the weekend was over.

It was a hell of a long weekend with a ton of windshield time. That being said the trails were awesome, and the snow was great to see. The best thing however was seeing my brothers from another mother. Usually we see each other and hangout multiple times each year. However with the world gone sideways this is the first time I had seen them in a year.

So fantastic trip get out on the trail and enjoy responsibly.

I'm glad you were able to get away to an LR event Bill. Scared me, though, when you talked about enjoying the D5...thought...oh boy...Bill's going soft on us and we'll never see that 110 active again. But, then you closed the thread with a Dl following you home...and mention nothing about its acquistion...or game plan. Which, truth be told...you're the only person l know that goes north to find a rover...most of us up here drool over those southern LR bodies (added the "LR" just incase my wife read this...lol.). Anyhow, what's the story on the Dl?

Side note...the plates still coming...just been sidetracked lately and haven't made it to the post office. Seems like, l'm either exhausted from shoveling snow or exhausted from shoveling snow or exhausted from shoveling snow and now that the snow is dissappearing...the dog poop has been reappearing...so now l'm shoveling four months of dog poop. Michigan, nothing but good times...lol.. Maybe today l'll get it heading south.

Another side note...never seen the trails plowed at Winter Romp before...was that because they were bringing a new Defender?...lol.

One more...side note...how was the turnout for the event?

Oops...one more...Happy Birthday to your daughter. How old? This answer will determine if l refer to you as old man or not...from here on out.

The D5 is really good, the terrain response is amazing in it. However that sleek body looses a bit of what I love about LR. That big boxy feel with great lines of sight.

D1 was to good to pass up, no plan no idea what I am going to do with it. Someone swapped a 4.6 in seems to run/drive/stop well. Has a CEL and a wondering idle. If my daughter wants it, it could be her first car instead of the wife's hand me down LR3. I'm with you however southern trucks are the way to go. Its not super crusty but it is nothing like my southern rides underneath. I didn't really intend to get another truck but sometimes they just follow you...

The snow on the trails already had a few days of use on it when we arrived. I saw another maybe 12 trucks out there. It was also spread out over 3 weekends this year. The new Defender is not the old Defender but I think it is going to be a hell of an off roader. The inside of it was a damn nice place to be.

No worries on the plates, I have had plenty of other stuff to keep me busy out there. As you can see clean up is still under way, bit so much has been accomplished out there.

She is 15 this year so I am a bit old lol
