amp and subwoofers
 

I'm getting a 99 discovery II tomorrow.
It has harman-kardon logos on tweeters and such so I guess it is equipped with that system(duh.. )

should I keep the stock head unit or not?
I have a kenwood head unit from my last car... and if I put it in, I'll keep the stock one just in case I sell this vehicle so that's not a deciding factor.


if I install the aftermarket one...

will I have to bypass the factory amp? does that mean I have to run all new wires??
and will the cd changer work with an aftermarket?

and if I keep the stock...
how can I wire the subwoofers? I'm sure stock one doesn't have RCA outputs.. right?
if I'm right, then how should I wire them?

You can use the stock speakers without any issues. The stock amp is another story....
The stock head unit wont have rca outs, and the amp inputs for signal and power most likely are Molex connectors. Even if the impedances dont match, if you had the schematic for the amp....you could still use it after figuring out what pin goes to where.
Personaly: I would install the Kenwood and use the stock speakers, then add an aftermarket amp as time/money allow. This is the easiest and less time consuming way.
You could allways just leave it stock too. What fun is that though? ;)

i would recomend replacing all the speakers and amps they will blow eventually trust me on that and you will just be listening to bass no mid or high that much unless you replace the stock with aftermarket and a good amp since u will be listening to just bass you will be blasting your radio and the noise will distore the freq of the speaker and eventually boom lollol but u can still rock ur system for a long time even years

The stock system has sounded very good in the month or so that I've owned my RR. I also have the harmon kardon speakers and have had no trouble. The system does adjust volume while driving according to your speed which can be irritating as it sometimes overcompensates. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I bought an amp and a sub but haven't had a chance to wire it up...

clip the speed sensor that attaches the radio. Grab a wiring diagram to see which one it is.
