Yeah, that picture of "old blacky" is in Saginaw, 100 miles from home. The ride...no cell phone (don't have one), no tools (besides what the car came with...never used condition...lol) and no fear (which they say is a sign of low intelligences...so I'm not sure I should be bragging about that...lol).

Took a "around the mitten" ride last fall, 900+ miles...and never opened the hood before we left.

But....truth be told...there is something about these two rovers...that keeps me interested in them. Again, I guess this could all be attributed to the "no fear = low IQ" remark earlier.

Once you're done turning the Rover into a front end loader the adventure fantasy will fade. Enjoy it.

Okay, we'll get back on track here...back to the mildly ambitious build.

Time to install hi-lift mount, fabricated by yours truly.

First, you have to brave the elements...and clean off some snow.



Picture of the inner bracing that was added earlier during spare tire mount flip.



Hi-lift mount.



Mount dissassembled. Basically three pieces, inner mounting plate, screw-on/stud plate and outer retaining plate.





Inner mounting plate in place.



Tire on, which traps/secures inner plate in place.



Hi-lift jack in place and secured.





We'll see how she holds up on the trail. I'm going to add a better safety strap/lock in the future...once my fingers thaw out.



Nice color match, if I do say so myself.

Ive been debating where to mount a hi-lift myself... Ill prob end up putting horizontal on the roof rack if I'm guessing! Saves room for my hitch mounted bike rack in the back!


You are starting to inspire me into looking for a welder! :-)

I generally go with the hi-lift mounted on someone elses truck

I'm 6'4" and no weakling by far...but this jack is a beast/and if you hit the wrong lever while lifting it...you can/could lose a finger easily. Lifted it up along the factory roof rack to see and feel what it would be like to have it mounted there...and it only took a few seconds to realize...there has to be a better option. Personally, if the jack wasn't going on the spare tire mount...it would probably be mounted, firmly/super-securely, along the foot area in the backseat or on the front brush guard (although, don't really need more weight up front).

Being able to weld your own stuff is satisfying.

While installing the hi-lift jack mount the other day...my "grape-ape" strength snapped the upper stud (like it was butter). Might have happen on account of the cold temps, it was 10 or 12...but..still makes me wonder about the quality of British metals.



Anyhow, went to three different parts stores and Fastenal...and none of them had a stud or bolt that would work. Can you believe that Fastenal doesn't stock fine threaded metric bolts...I mean, really...a freak'n bolt company. Came home and removed a stud out of a porsche front hub l'd disassembled years ago.



So, the rover will be getting spruced up some with a finely engineered German part.

Only because of the previous Bavarian ties that might reject the PAG influences.
