Nice!

Must be nice having a little community of rover owners that are into modifying rigs. When l mention to folks around here that l'm working on a discovery...their like...a what?...or...why aren't you modifying a jeep? Your rover's looking good.

Brian.

Yeah it is great to have friends/connections!

This entire build has truly been a budget build. I'm just shocked at how I've been able to get such great deals on superb LR off road hardware.

Now I'm seriously thinking of picking up a Harbor Freight 9K winch. I have a coupon that would make it barely over 200.00 out the door. I've had $$$$ winches, and even then some of them acted up. I've read articles on em and I've known a few people with them and they said they're slower than a Warn or Superwinch, but they got the job done without any fuss. For just over 200.00 I'm seriously considering it.

Friend of my has a 9k lb, nylon rope Harbor freight winch on his jeep.
I have been amazed at what it can do. Definately a deal for $200.
I want one for my Disco...just gotta fix 30 or 40 other things on it first, lol.
He even used the winch to pull several 6-8" diameter hardwood trees out of the ground. They were growing in the middle of old trails and road beds at my house.
Beats a chainsaw, and pulled them out like weeding a garden!

Yeah I looked one over pretty good the last time I was in a Harbor Freight and it looks to me like an old Aussie winch brand knock off. I had a Smittybilt XRC8 and it performed okay, but it's finish was HORRIBLE. I've also heard horrible things about the Warn VR line for twice as much so I think I'm going to give the old Harbor Freight winch a go.

Why not go with the 12,000 LB?

I got mine for $280 out the door, recovered a RRC on 35's last week, single line pull no problem

You should try Georgia...... A guy in town spotted me and tracked me down on the forum, to find out info.

I would go with the 12k as well for the winch. Never heard anyone complain that their winch was to powerful. Honestly I wouldn't get anything less than 10k but would prefer 12k for the LR3. She's a fat girl :)

LR3 is a PHAT old gal for sure lol.

Well I swung by Harbor Freight today and all the 9K's were sold out and they didn't expect another shipment until 2018... They had the 12K with a funky looking spring setup on top of it for 379.00. I looked and looked for any specials to get it for 280.00 and found nothing, so I went home empty handed. I really wanted to mount a winch on the old gal today while I'm off on vacation.

The funky spring setup is a rope tensioner, it keeps the wire tight on the drum when there is no tension, actually works quite well.

I believe I used either a 20% or 25% off coupon to get mine, they were also advertising the winch at $285 in one of the flyers recently, maybe black Friday?
