Default Diesel Disco nearing completion

How it sits now
This has been a goal of mine since I was about 15 watching Camel Trophy videos. After abandoning hope of getting a 200 or 300tdi engine, I looked into others. Found a range rover adapter to mercedes om603 diesel. Made by Gosta Lindgren of Scandinavian Marine Technologies. After about $4500 swedish Krona I had the kit, which included motor mounts a bellhousing and crank adapter. About the only usable part was the bell adapter, as apparently the discovery HP22 has a different pattern for the flexplate? Either way I had to have a local machinist make me a crank adapter to my measurements, modify a starter to fit, modify the mounts because this was for the euro non turbo om603. Either way, its in and it runs. Looking forward to possible first test drive this weekend!

Interesting. Did you change the torque converter? Usually gas and diesel are different.

Looking forward to the test drive results.

Torque converter is the same. So far I've only driven about 10ft to ensure the trans linkage is all working. And to cycle it through the gears, check fluid. Ect. Need to bleed brakes, and then first test drive!

I've been driving the truck with no major issues thus far. Unfortunately the engine is going to have to come back out due to a leaky rear main seal. Hope this inspires some to take the plunge and go diesel. Looking forward to my next big trip, I'm hoping with the 24gal tank, and averaging 25mpg to get a 600 mile range on one tank!
