90 or 110 instead of campervan
Ok, probably dumb and probably naive..but.. we have been looking at buying a used campervan such as a VW T5 to mainly use as a day van fitted with maybe a fridge, power for a kettle and fold up table etc. You will spend a lot to get a decent VW T5 maybe VW T6 plus any mods that need to be done..
Ive had two series 3's in the past ( wish I'd kept them!!! ) and I've always wanted an old defender. Is it even worth considering by a 90 or 110 and adding a fridge, power etc so I can have the best of both worlds ? thanks Peter |
How about a D130 Outbound? More space!

This visual might change your perspective. It is both more improvable and much more economical.

You never really mentioned your price range...or where you are located (which help indicate pricing)...or much else of importance. Good luck. |

My wife and I were looking for a used campervan ( not big motorhome ) that we could use to go on weekends away or daily trips. we are semi- retired ie both work only 4 days a week now. I've always loved landrovers despite only ever owning 2 series III's and yes its more likely heart over head but at this stage of my life who cares.. Of course I wish I had bought a defender 10 years ago but now its more of cool thing to have now so prices have gone silly. We would mainly use it to potter around the country seeing the sites and stopping at airbnb's or cottages for sleeping but would love to have something we could throw our two dogs in and when we wanted to stop to admire a view we could put the kettle on , get an ice cold drink out or maybe even cook a quick lunch As I said, I though why not combine my dream of owning a defender with the possibility of using it as a daily campervan I have looked at the obvious VW's T4/T5 etc but they are even more overpriced, van conversions are hit and miss Our budget.. well ideally under £15k for something we could use straight away Cheers Peter Cheshire |
I don't think you'll find a good condition 110 for 15k that is ready to go and usable right away.

Pricing is quite different in the UK, so l'd say that's a manageable price range. I've convertered my 110 into a camping rig. It is difficult to sleep two people inside with cabinets and storage. Have a roof top tent for times my wife goes along or grandkids. I'll go snap some interior pictures.

Yes, it's been a battle at times...but for the most part...worth it. I have a build topic/thread in the Build Section of this forum. Plenty of pictures of build and use. I say...if you want to own one...go for it! Just take your time and look over frame and floor pans for excessive rust. For what you've described, usage, it would be easy to maintain a Defender for that. Good luck! |
