double motorcycle hitch on d90
need some help here please. Does anyone see a problem with this system of taking 2 dirt bikes around on the back of my d90?
1 person told me it is the worst idea ever to do as the truck is not made to carry weight like that. I did it with 2 bikes and all seemed fine; however, I do not want to damage my truck, nor do I want to risk safety.
fyi: the dirt bikes only weigh about 225lbs each.
thanks so much in advance

RE: double motorcycle hitch on d90
Load bay capacity for a 90 is listed as 650kgs or 1,430lBs... but that's between the axles, not hung out behind the rear axle - it's also the manufacturers stated maximum weight for the contents of the load bay, not neccesarily a safe weight to be carrying.
Having the load behind the rear axle is going to lift the front of the car significantly more than if the load were between the wheels - this will reduce the effectiveness of the brakes, particularly in the wet, seriously affect the handling on the limit (think emergency maneuvers not racing line) and probably make it less pleasurable to drive. FWIW the max nose weight or towball weight for a 90 is 150kgs (330lbs) so you're probably pushing that with 1 bike and that framework.
I'd get a cheap double bike trailer and play it safe if it were my decision.
Cheers,
Adam.

trailer????
I don't want to sound a bit sinacle but using a double bike trailer is fine for carrying 2 bikes, as long as it's fitted with a centre bike track when using it to carry single bikes. I've repaired countless amount of trailers when the people carried one bike on the side track and turning a corner or bend and over the trailer goes and the bike is smashed as well.
