Seriously thinking about a D90 for DD in the USA
 

First post here.

Years ago I drove a regular Range Rover bought new around 1995 with the old Buick derived engine and more recently, my wife drives a 2010 Range Rover. The older RR eventually gave us a lot of engine issues after 5 years which prompted us to sell it.

Now that the kids are older and don't need me to drive them to soccer and lacrosse practice, I want to get rid of my Surburban and am wondering if getting a used but well maintained officially imported D90 for a daily driver is a good idea. Does anyone use them for a daily driver. Are there electrical and engine issues? How easily are they maintained and parts obtained in the USA? Other then Copley Motors in Boston, are there reputable sources to buy well maintained and restored examples?

I DD my 83 110 and it's fine as long as you don't mind a bit of wrenching. Also you don't mind a lack of creature comforts.

I drove a Series III as a daily driver for over three years. I put just over 50K miles on the truck. Yes, I was always fixing something but I didn't mind. I have to believe a coiler would be a lot easier on you than my leafer. There are far fewer things to go wrong on a D90 than there are on a Range Rover or DI. I'd do it again but maybe with a 109 or 110.

I love driving my 90. I've only driven it "daily" for about a week or two at the most. If I had a/c I'd totally make it my primary vehicle. One of these days it will. I'll probably do a/c before I do a turbo engine. I might be crazy, but the 2.5na engine make me feel calmer. I know I have to take it easy, so I don't get in a hurry.

I hear you about the 2.5NA. It was kind of nice knowing I was perpetually relegated to the right lane on the highway with my 2.25NA. The only time it was a little nerve wracking was when I had to merge on a highway. That really won't be a problem for the OP with a 3.9L or 4.0L.
