*HELP* Another won't start thread:(
 

1995 Disco missed all of the snow fun this winter because it wouldn't start.
-Check engine light has never come on.

-It has fuel up to the fuel rail.

-It has spark. (used and in-line spark plug tester light thingy)

-It cranks but does not start.

- I kept the battery charged all winter. It never went dead etc.

-I decided to replace the fuel pump just because it has 100k and wanted to
do some preventative maintenance.

-fuel injector fuse is fine.

What led up to it not starting was when I was headed over to my parents

house it started wanting to die when at a light. Died once but I got it

started again pretty quick. Had a feeling of cutting out the rest of the way

to my parents house so I had to kept the revs up. Parked it there and

could start it as needed to move out of way etc but would take a lot of

cranking to get it started. Once it got cold out we couldn't get it started.

again.

Crank sensor perhaps? I'm trying to avoid calling a mechanic out to my

parents house but I'm close to doing it at this point. Not sure what a

mechanic cost in the Kansas City area for a house call? I'm not a "no it all"

type of guy so all comments and suggestions welcome:)

If you have a distributor you don't have a crank position sensor. If you have spark that is a good sign. Auto parts store will loan you a fuel pressure test gauge with a deposit. Attach to the Schrader valve on passenger side fuel rail (looks like a tire valve). When key is turned on the pump runs for a couple of seconds, should get to 32-34 PSI range. Could be clogged up fuel filter, among other things.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I replaced the fuel filter first. For some crazy reason

that I cannot comprehend, there is NO schrader valve!? Looked several times and

there isn't one anywhere on the fuel rail. I am familiar schrader valves because I

installed a fuel pressure gauge on my 93 Cobra years ago. Anyone ever heard of

schrader valveless Land Rover before?? I do know that the long block was replaced

before I picked my Disco up so they might of used an different fuel rail for some reason

perhaps? I'll try to get it started in a few day's after it warms up again and try some

starting fluid.

This sounds exactly like what happened with my 98. As odd as it sounded, I was told (sorry for whoever told me this, but I cannot find that thread to give them credit) to unplug the MAF, replace the plugs & it started right up. It ran like crap for a bit (till all of the fuel from cranking it was burned out of the exhaust) & then ran okay till the new MAF was shipped.

Test port for none tests port provided fuel rails.

Since the fuel filter is the same as Chevrolet approach Napa for a test port tool which substitutes the fuel filter for a hex shaped hollow bar shaped tool. Inserted where the fuel filter is located, the test port provided on the flank of the tool will allow you to read fuel pressure under test conditions.

That is the easy bit, now all you ahve to do is find the issue you are trying to fix!;)
