[HELP] Rubbing Sound
 

So I noticed that whenever I take off, drive, and stop I have this rubbing sound. It's consistently there, but the sound is non consistent. I thought it was the brake pads at first. But I had just recently changed them. Since the sound is inconsistent I figured it would be the rotors being out of warp. But if you think about it to make that sound the brake pads have to be rubbing it right? So does that mean the calipers need to be rebuilt because the piston is stuck? I got lectured because I changed the pads and now this is happening, I have a week to get the sound to go away so I need to bounce some ideas off of people. Thanks guys.

Yes it very well could be the brake pads rubbing on the rotors.
You will need to jack up the truck and then apply the brakes and then spin each tire by hand and listen for the noise.
Once you find it pull the wheel(s) and investigate more.

The right rear brake caliper is stuck. The pads are on the rotor 24/7. The left pad is minuscule compared to the right pad. You can see the dust build up after all this driving and rubbing. So new reseal kit for both rear calipers?

Personally I would buy professionally rebuild calipers, but thats just me.
AutoZone has them for not to bad a price with a warranty.

$47/ ea with core
$97/ ea with out core

It's starting to look that way. The only caliper rebuild kits with only seals locally is about $35/ea caliper.
Makes sense to just get a new caliper.

So you pay the $200 up front for 2 and then you get the $100 back when you return the cores.
Not to bad of a deal if you ask me.
Just keep in mind that AutoZone takes upto a week to refund your core charge if you paid with a credit or debit card.
So if you only have $200 to your name and need to put gas in your truck (for example) too then pay in cash so you will get the core money back in cash.
Also if you have a AutoZone Rewards card and you use rewards money to help pay for the parts/core charge when you return the core they will not give you money back, they will credit your rewards card.
Not sure where you found the calipers, but I am just saying that AutoZones core policy sucks hairy twins.

But the thing is, the Auto Zone here is WAYYYY more helpful than Advance Auto Parts or Oreilly Auto Parts. So Idk, I don't have the cash to do that right now. I should in a weeks time or beginning of July. Sucks.. haha

Just looked online and found the Caliper Rebuild Kits (Just the seals) like this:

I mean, what is the point in replacing the entire caliper? I believe the only thing wrong with it is that there is dirt and grime that is causing the piston to be stuck. So if I clean the caliper inside and out, clean the piston, and replace the seals I should be good right? :confused:

odds are you have some pitting on a piston.... You are looking at $100 for the pistons and seals for the fronts..
