300tdi disco Custom Speakers Boxes 6x9
 

I'm 21 and i love my loud music in my cars. So when i got my disco i had the problem of installing 6x9 in the back of my disco. I managed to put 5 1/4" components in the back pilers with slight modification. But wanted some 6x9 4 to be precise. So i decided to build a custom box above the back door and i removed the near side dicki seat to mount my amp and power cap. I have a twin 12" active sub in the back on a fast plug so i can remove it when i need too. Im just waiting for my sub to come back because i had a problem with the built in amp on it but that should be back on monday so ill up load pics when i put it back in. I have some pioneer 10cm speakers in the front powered off the head unit. The full install is very very loud.

Slick. Others have taken a different path. Turn it up and make the mud jump right off the truck...

What mounting points did you use to keep it secured up there?

Pretty sleek though I'm curious why you mounted in the rear opposed to a speaker bar in the middle of the truck. Similar to what the Jeepers do

thats is something i didn't take pictures of Don't no why :S. Just above the back door there is a little lip, i just drilled 5 3mm pilot holes and then used some self tappers because there is metal just behind the lip witch gave me a really good mounting point. also at each end i drilled a 4mm pilot hole in the trim above the sky lights then used two jubilee clips cut down with holes drilled in them to secure it at the sky lights it is soiled as a rock. One of my mates liked ot so much that he got me to build one for him identical.

Because i don't really have people sat on the dickie seats also if I'm off roading and people are sat in the middle then they could bang there head of the box also i use the luggage nets. it just seamed a good place to mount it.

My replacement sub should be here shortly so i will upload more pics when install of my whole sound system also i'll upload a video

Yeah, you've really got me scratching my head, coming up with my own plans for a sub/amp enclosure. I'd love to get dimensions and a total weight of your setup the next time you take it down, in addition to the mounting points. It looks like you used plywood? I was thinking along the lines of MDF, small amp and two small subs, but that's going to be a lot of weight up there - probably too much.

I Built the unit december last year only just covered it this weekend just gone. thats why i took so long to post on here i was just waiting till it was finished. I used 10mm ply because its really light weight the box ways next to nout but its got strength. when i made one for my mate i just used mine as a template. originally i made it to fit and its perfect for 6x9's. as goes by weight i wouldn't concern your self as it is secured with screws in the metal behind the panels. Only thing you would struggle with is the depth you would probably have to used spacers and cut away at the roof liner but the only thing is for a sub to work it would need to be sealed are ported a sub sat on its own isn't gonna give you much bass I'm afraid.
