ABS with center diff locked?

Is it even supposed to work with the center diff locked or does that disable ABS? Or does the ABS have two modes for locked and unlocked?

I think that on the D1s the ABS is always on unless you disable it by pulling certain fuses.

There is no connection between the diff lock and the ABS. ABS is just a variable reluctance sensor used to count teeth on a sensor ring mounted to the rotor, a pump to pulse the fluid input to the caliper, and a very simple feedback loop control system to activate it. If the sensor stops counting while the brakes are being applied, but the ABS brain still gets a speed input from the VSS it assumes the wheel has stopped spinning (ie locked up) and activates the ABS pump and opens a valve to pulse the fluid going to that wheel. It does not even care what the other wheels are doing, let alone what the transfer case is doing.

We still have open difs so ot doesnt really create any type of binding in the system.

ABS still works with dif lock.

ABS on a DI is a oxymoron.

give it time....your ABS will disable itself !

really the question came up because I was reading about some of the early 4wd ABS systems like on the Mitsubishi Pajero and how they were groundbreaking because they worked with a center differential lock, but this was early 90's and I suppose by the time it was on Land Rovers the multi-mode ABS was a routine feature.

I gotta laugh, the ABS on the disco I are an absolute joke, more funny than anything else. I ver literally made a fast manuever skidded, applied brakes removed my foot from the brake and and it felt like 5 seconds later the abs began to engage. My wife and I laughed

D1 ABS gives me zero confidence in the wet. I nearly slid through a couple of busy intersections with no engagement, but normal stops give me a wonderful stutter in the pedal. It is good to know that diff locks won't affect what little benefit my ABS system offers.

Just for Ss and Gs, for those who don't have them here is a link to Wabco's literaturre page:

Here is the troubleshooting manual for Version C

http://www.meritorwabco.com/MeritorW...ument/mm38.pdf

And Version D

http://www.meritorwabco.com/MeritorW...ument/mm39.pdf

You can tell what version you have by looking at the ABS ECU tag.
