AELS vs SELS

I've read all the threads on how to tell the difference between AELS and the SELS, but I've yet to find a description of the benefits of the new system in the later '96 and on.

All I know is they are different, and my O2 sensors are twice the price of the AELS ones (my truck is early '96).

Anyone know the actuall benefits of the new system?

Advanced Evaporative Emissions Loss is a smog system that collects the gas vapor from the gas tank, condenses it back to liquid and then sends it back to the gas tank.
Its sole purpose is to prevent hydrocarbons from escaping into the ozone and killing us all slowly by baking us to death.
You cannot use the AEVAP O2's because they have different connectors on them.

So it is purely emissions based and there are no real advantages over feeling a bit greener by the sounds of it.

Appreciate the info. Just sparked my curiosity when I noticed the AEVAP O2's were quite a bit cheaper.

There is a trade off, your O2's cost more but our fuel pumps cost more.
Go price fuel pumps for a '95 and for a '98 DI once, you'll gladly pay for those O2's.

I bought used O2's from Will Tillery. Great Price on either new or used from WILL. Call Him.

O2 sensors for Disco 1

Hi, I have a 1998 Disco 1 and had ordered the NTK 25044 O2 sensors from Rock Auto after reading a post. I ordered two planning to install on the
front side of CATS. Now I'm worried that I got the wrong ones
because I didn't think my Disco used AELS
Is there a cut off on the range of VIN numbers for these for my year
maybe I should send my vin number.

If you need the Vin number: SALJY1240WA788745

Spike, I have a 98 Disco. Been trying to get the right O2 Sensors
but wondered if putting the wrong ones on somehow causes fuel pumps
to go? or were you just making a point about relative cost of parts for
different years?

TOM R 05-21-2013 08:25 PM

he is making a point about parts prices

I found the best price on new ntk was amazon when I replaced my up streams, up streams are the only ones you need to worry about the down streams do not affect fuel mix replace up streams as a pair
