Default anti lock light on

The anti lock light on the dash is on and doesn't seem to go off less I turn the key off. I tried the blink method by jumping pin 5 and 15, tried using a paperclip and a small wire, neither worked. I don't know if I was supposed to remove anything before I tried the blink method or not. Would like to have abs, only had the vehicle for a few months and the light has been on since I had it. I hooked it up to autel 619 scanner but it said it couldn't retrieve and abs codes. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Maybe obvious, but be sure you have the jumper wire in pins #5 & #15 in the OBDII connector in the right place.

That connector is c2083 and it reads upside down. TOP from the LEFT starts at pin #16. BOTTOM from the LEFT starts at pin #8.

Again maybe obvious, but I've seen this mistake made more than a few times.

So, turn the ignition switch to 0 (Off). Install the jumper wire, and then turn the switch to position 2. Cross fingers and count BLINKS.
Good Luck.

Ok sounds good I wasn't sure if the wire had to be inserted before or after turning the key. Do I need to crank the truck or just turn it on.

" Do I need to crank the truck or just turn it on. "

Just turn the key to position 2 and the dash lights will come on. Then don't touch the key until you get the codes. AND don't forget to cross your fingers, say a prayer, whatever works.

DON'T crank/start the truck.

I had the same issue. After failing to get the codes, I did what some others suggested, and pulled the main ABS fuse. However, the ABS light still stayed on, so I removed the bulb. Truck brakes fine, no ABS groaning, no ABS light, all is right with the world again, lol...

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the ABS can be a result of loose ABS sensors.

Sometimes they become slightly dislodged and require re-seating with a tap or removal, a quick cleaning and then re-seating with a new washer ;-)

Well finally got around to trying the blink method again. Starting to drive me crazy. No blink at all, might have flickered a little maybe I was starring at it and imagined it who knows. Tried pulling both fuses under the hood to at least kill the light no luck. I guess wishful thinking on my part. It's the only light on the dash so I figure I should at least clear it then move on to other things. I don't guess if I happened to fix the problem by cleaning the sensors and making sure there pushed all the way in will make the light go out? Is there a reader that will read the 98 abs codes or is that a dealer only thing? Thanks
