Brake Calipers and Pads
 

I need to replace the front brake calipers and all 4 rotors. To save a few bucks without really asking for trouble could I use Auto Zone's Duralast brand for everything? Or is that sacrificing money for quality? I just use her to drive to and from school and work. Nothing fancy till I finish some other things off haha. I see just brake rotor and pad kits for $400+ and I can get rotors and calipers for $377.78 at my local autozone.

Duralast reproduces nearly everything. Never had problems that were not my own fault. You can also pickup some used OEM calipers farely cheap. Just make sure the brake pads are GOLD or better.

Have you priced the Wagner pads and rotors at O'Reilly? I've been using those without issue. And the Cardone reman calipers.
Amazon is even cheaper on the Wagner parts, that's were I got my last ones.

I found Brembo rotors on partsgeek for $44/ea and the centric calipers were $55 ea with $55 core deposits. And no I haven't tried o'reillys. Isn't Brembo a good brand? And Centric calipers are what I have in the rear and haven't had any problems so far.

Brembo is a great brand.

I bought the Proline calipers, and the rotor and pad sets from Rovers North. Check them out. Mine have been fine.

Well I found some EBC rotors for $33/ea

any history with those?

And are they all interchangable rotors? Some I see that they sell specific front and rear ones and some do not.

Just a tad over two hundred will get both the front and rear as far as pads AND rotors. I hvae those all around on my 97. They still look fine and work great and it's been 3 years now.

But it's up to you, do whatever HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..........

Both of these include ALL the parts you'll need to do a proper rotor/pad brake job. If you're going that far in you shouldn't be assing around trying to reuse lock washers and oil seals. Do it right the first time.

I'd say they are pretty close, and I agree about using new hardware, i even buy all new bolts and such if they are not in excellent shape. If you are replacing the rotors, you should also do the wheel bearings too. I did not include them, neither did you.

Staying with a Rover based supplier is usually the best bet, whether it is Rovers North or AB.

I did not want to do all the math, so I don't know if you beat it or not.

Point is I stay away from the cheap chains that try to serve all brands, and a lot of the web sites as well that try to serve all brands. I would rather stick with the ones I trust.

They're not that close. I think the best deal is the $240 kit fomr AB. The RN "kit" is $213 and that doesn't get you any of the other parts. Not even the brake pad hardware from what I can tell. All that extra hardware, that you should replace anyways, will run you another $62 purchased separately.

Wheel bearing are usually fine and can be repacked without issue.
