looks nice and clean - for its age.
if you dont already know - Por-15, stops rust and lasts for yrs.
Mine had the typical rear wheel arch rust when I got it in 06' Ive only had to reapply Por-15 once since - and the rust has not gotten any worst.

you'll have fun in it. i love the way these trucks feel on and off the road. i have a '04 D2 and drive it every day. i recently fixed up my son's '96 D1 and test drove it. damn, i forgot how much fun it was.

and good looking truck. looks as if you found a good one. the engines are so easy to work on and if you keep ahead of the rust it will last forever. our '96 has 235,000 miles on the original engine and is still going, well, i'd say strong but these were never strong engines. anyway, it's still going.

Good looking LR.

Pull up the front carpets on driver's and passenger side. You'll likely see rust there. Scrape it, treat it, repaint it.

I found that there is a bolt strip that extends through the floorboard so that the front mud flaps can bolt to something.

Pull that off. Silicone the bolt holes. Reassemble. Put a bead of silicone at the seam under the truck where the mud flap meets the body. That should stop a lot of ingress of water.

Get GOOD quality rubber floor mats and keep them in place. That keeps wet and salty shoes from soaking the carpets and the underlayment.

Repeat all of this once a year. Should take you an hour each time, tops.

Glad to hear a recommendation on POR15, I have two undercarriage preservation projects.

Ive used both POR-15 and chassy saver - its like the difference between industrial and consumer strength.

Good to know. Your the first I've come across that I trust to give an honest opinion AND has time on it as proof. Can't tell you how valuable that is because its been on my mind for awhile, now I can pull the trigger.
