Catalytic converter removal
 

My cat is rattling somewhat when I first takeoff from dead stop. Pretty sure thats what Ive been hearing. Im just wondering what would it involve not having a cat in exhaust system of this early model engine. Apparently after some research there were 95 P38 engines that came with no cat.

Without the cats you would have to add o2 sensors back in. Then you would have to change the EMS?

And yes I know this is illegal and officially I'm not going to. Just researching.:D

Nothing you should be fine I know a few guys in north Ga who run there 3.9l discos with out cats and they have had no issues. There check engine light will come on if they let it sit at idle for a long time but as soon as you get going it goes out. Also it will make the engine run cooler just my two cents take it for what its worth. (in north Ga there are no emission laws)

it is only the obd2 rovers that you have to mess with downstream o2

I'd have to look at my '95 but I think it takes only 2 O2's and they're pre-cat. I think you can yank the cats and be fine because post-cat isn't monitored anyway.

It's easy. Cut out CATs, weld in pipe, done. Doesn't effect O2 sensors.

Don't forget to sell your cats. Should get $70-90 each.

On the later D1's where two of the O2 sensors are after the Cats, pretty sure it would result in a check engine light indicating 'Low Catalytic Converter Efficiency' all the time. Earlier one's probably wouldn't. I get that on mine at the moment. Doesn't affect operational efficiency, but somewhat annoying.
