Center console removal

I Found this good write up on removing the center console. It is showing a D2, but it the same for a D1.

Great link. Do you know of any after market consoles? A sturdier one would be great...

I think you gonna have to go custom on aftermarket. I have searched but found none
lots for defenders though

What's wrong with the console other the the **** brittle plastic they used? :)

I would be curious to hear from wnyone who has installed a switch to the SLABS ECU to toggle the TC on/off while CDL engaged... advantages/disadvantages?

dusty1 Feb 28, 2014 01:45 PM

huh.. i think engage cdl turn engine off start it back up and tc is off.

Say what? Guessing tc is torque converter?

Rover_Hokie Feb 28, 2014 03:25 PM

Some guys say they like to run CDL and no TC in some types of sand, I cannot provide any feedback as to what it does for them, but that is what I have heard/read.

Custom would be fine, if anyone here has the skills....let me know and let's see what it would cost

So, the current one that land rover makes is thermo formed. I have a lot of experience producing thermo formed products in China. The mold would be approx 1500-2500. The per piece cost would depend on material(ABS/PVC/Blend), thickness, custom color or not, etc. if we as a land rover community could put a collective order together, I could produce the center console. Also involved is CNC machining(cig lighter hole, shifter holes, etc) as well as sonic welding the cubby section in.

Anyways, not a piece of cake, but not unobtanium.
