Glad you filled in the details. I never had to mess with the sensor on mine except to repair the wires, left the sensor installed.

I got a good laugh out of your question, can only imagine what it would look like holding the sensor in place.

I've gotten pretty good at swapping these things out, little hands would make it easier for sure. But you know what they say about little hands...

In the interest of common decency, I will forgo that picture.

Got it replaced. Collar was loose until I tightened the bolt that holds the shield to the collar. Last couple of turns tightened everything up. Runs fine during rain storms and going through puddles. Did nothing for the occasional surging. RPM bouncing 50-60 - Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum

Really? All of those? The hammer and wrenches seem a bit much, but if they get the job done, so be it.

I replaced the crank sensor and fixed the wiring. All seems good now. The little bracket dooie seemed to flop around a bit but snugged up once I tightened up the screws that held in the sensor.
The wiring was bad. Very bad. About an inch above the connector it was very brittle and about an 1/8" to a 1/4" inch of insulation was gone. I gently pulled it to the top of the engine, cut out the bad bits, found some suitable replacement wire, slipped heat shrink over everything, soldered a bit, and applied heat to the wrap and it shrunk. And Bob's your Uncle.
