Default Disco 1 - Unknown part on front axle

Hi all,

The title says it all really, just wanting to know what the part circled in red is?

Looks to me to be for absorbing some kind of vibration or shock, however the way it's attached I'm a bit unsure. Truck is a 94 Disco 1.

Thanks in advanced

Yes it reduces high frequency vibrations. I think the cable is a safety to retain the weight in case the rubber fails.

As johnZo said its for N.V.H. Noise/Vibration/Harshness. The cable is a safety catch. Some people remove them and see no additional vibrations, some people say they notice an increase if removed.

It is probably sized to dampen certain gear or u-joint resonant frequencies (ringing) at highway speeds. Probably won't make an impact for typical off-roading. It will work with the drag arm bushings to prevent resonant rotational vibrations of the axle.

Thanks for all the info.

Basically confirmed what I was thinking. I'll stay there for now as it's not doing any harm.

Cheers
