Dealing With Rust on Rear Door Hinge

Hey All,

My D1 has been living outside since the Bugeye took over the garage, and I've been noticing a wee bit of rust developing on one of the rear door hinges.

Any suggestions for keeping it in check?

I've sprayed some white lithium grease on it, but I'm not sure that is enough. Living in the Seattle area brings with it lots of moisture, and I don't want to let this get out of control.

Thanks!

Haha, Good Luck! I purchased my 95 D1 from a guy that moved from WA state out here to South Carolina. Its got rust from front to back! But for $500, i figured WTH! Its like a cancer on this thing! But damn I love driving it..... Anyways, my door had rusty hinges too. I soaked em with white lithium and the hinge guide dealio on bottom side too. It was loaded with rust too.....

C'mon Danny - keep it "PG" would you?

But, if that works - do you have any old Q-Tips you can ship?

Sorry - you left the door open...

Are you sure the hinge is rusting?
My top cargo door hinge has rust on it but it is from the roof, the roof has a rust spot and it drips onto the hinge when it rains and is staining the hinge.

Yes. There is a bit of rust in the center part of the top cargo door hinge. The rust is in the gap or seam for lack of a better term. If it stops raining today I'll snap a pic and post it.

Here is the shot of the rust (lower part of the hinge). It is subtle, but as we all know, rust tends to grow, so I am hoping to keep this under control now vs. later when I'm scouring a junkyard for a hinge from a wrecked D1. :)

So far, it sounds like Naval jelly might be a good candidate to control it.

keep an eye on this, I let mine go too long and the damn door fell off going around a corner... not fun.
