do you have to reprogram the ecm

I mean really do you have to....I hear that sometimes they work and sometimes they need reprogrammed....so why is that? I just bought one off of ebay for the same year and model...so what is the deal is it the serial numbers and the ecbm once they recognize each other is it like.....who are you? No I don't know you and I refuse to start. I have an inquisitive mind and a cheap nature...don't want to take it to the dealer if I don't have to.:D

I have switched ECU's on my old 97D1 and my newer 99D1 and never had to reprogram. But check this site out for further information.

No you don't have to reprogram as long as you have the same part#

Hold the phone....

You may have to anyways...

On my 96, I replaced with same part number ecu out of another 96. truck started fine 3 or 4 times, then nada....

Took a dealer reprogram to get it to start after that.

Tried to look for one out of curiosity. Only price I can find online is a used one for 1150 pounds(about 1800USD). Thats 18 trips to the dealership for most people(one trip for me). I still like the Bearmach Hawkeye's price better...

i just got a used one from a yard on ebay for 70 dollars counting the shipping....saw another one in there for 100.....don't all of these have an immobilizer...isn't that just another way of saying the alarm system.?

I didn't have to reprogram when I changed mine a couple years back
