Or crawl under the truck and move the parking brake cable off the exhaust pipe. Had this happen on my buds truck with rigged exhaust. Check it.

That's good advise, check that, but the electric issue still on.

If you keep driving it with it doing that, the problem will identify itself. It will be where the flames erupt from!

Download the RAVE. All the details are int here for total removal of the console. You probably need to get in there anyway. Does the CDL shifter work smootly in yours?

Oh yeah, even though many people call it the Emergency Brake, it is really just a Parking Brake as it atttempts to stop the driveshaft from being able to move and is not intended to be an E-Brake, we do not have those in a Discovery.

So the Disco Web board syas that if the required ground strap from the engine to the chassis is missing then the Parking Brake cable acts as the ground and can be a severe problem.

Is your fire insurance good on your old DI?

It is a electrical short!!!
Find it NOW DO NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL YOU DO!!
You might even want to unhook the battery.
This is what can happen.

As a test, you can meter from (-) battery to engine block on volts. Any volts = loose ground bonding strap. To confirm, take a battery jumper cable and connect from (-) battery to engine block or tranny. If this makes heat problem go away, locate bonding straps and clean up ends. I believe Danny is right, instead of being a short, which would blow a fuse, this is a case where one loose wire is being replaced by the ebrake and in effect carrying much of the current in the vehicle on the return trip to the alternator and battery.

If can't work on tonight take battery cable off the battery. Just in case. But if this was a short, it would also have killed battery. Can't drive this way, fire hazard.

I had a fair amount of problems with mine when I first bought it. I would get intermittent starter issues. It was a severely corroded ground on the starter to frame connection. My advise is to immediately get under it with a strong light and look at everything really well.

AntiChrist makes great electrical cables for the Discovery if you need replacements.

Like Savannah and Spike have posted, it could be really bad if it burst into flames.

Ummm... not a good time to park in the garage, certainly not if one of those under the house..... since no fuse on the ground return side, and certainly not on the ebrake assembly, once amps make it heat to the point foam insulation catches fire, the photo Spike posted is less than 4 minutes from reality.

It seems to be the grounding wire I think. I found this spot under the engine and w.e I spray it with water the engines acts up and wont rev over 1k until it drys out. This also happens when i hit big puddles.
