front hub question
OK I have done all bearings and seals( doing last wheel today)
Question I have taken apart 3 front hubs 2 had the snap ring and 2 guess thrust washers one thinner then other, 2 flanges had em stacked under the snap ring 1 had the thick one under the snap ring then thin one on inside of the hub flange Which is correct? Best I can tell rave shows 1 and it goes on the outside I am installing terra firms HD flanges and the snap ring will not go on with both under it Little guidance please. |
Take one of the drive flange bolts and thread it into the end of the axle. Pull it out while installing the thin washers and snap ring.

Yeah did that the tf flanges must be thicker just used the thicker ones
|
Hmmm, weird. I have the TF flanges up front and everything fit ok.
|
Yeah both washers will not fit with the snap ring so I have a little end play on the axles, very little, with the snap ring on I can't Eden wedge the thin washer in there
|
I'm sure it'll be fine. :)

Yeah wheeled like that last weekend seems fine, just figured I would fix it today if need be while I was doing the last set of wheel bearings

I just went thought this a few days ago..
Tom, I took a 15MM closed end wrench and placed it inside a bolt that fit in the shaft. the bolt was a 17mm so I could hold the axle out with my right foot while I used my hands to fit the snap ring on.
The question of the sizes - both my D1's had a skinny and a thicker like you said. The skinny goes on first cause if you place it last, it will get into the ridge that the snap ring goes in. The easiest mistake to make is trying to place 2 thick ones one one side after you easily places the two skinny ones on the other .. hope this helped. |
Well I did save the parts so I may revisit this when I get time again, not sure a little end play will hurt anything
