Found this discovery near me, luckily about 10 mins away. I’m familiar with discovery 2s, I know they are similar, but I’ve heard the D1s are much more reliable.

Here are some photos. Is $850 a good deal? Has 50k miles on a crate motor after the original blew up. Then the brakes locked up from overheating and they towed it to a field and never drove it again.

Paint looks like it could be brought back as the clear coat isn’t chipping. They have the interior bits to make it complete. They took them out to deter thieves!

That's going to take some serious work. I wouldn't buy it unless it was sub-$500.

You think it would take serious work? Apparently the motor was fine when parked. Just the brake system blow out. May I ask why that's your opinion? Since I don't know these cars that well. Definitely don't want to go belly up on one. Thanks!

Do you think Its worth $850? Or less?

What are the original miles, do you know? What is the accident record?
If the original miles are not astronomical, and if the engine really has only 50K and it was good/new when they put it in, and it really is still a good engine, and the running gear, suspension and steering are at least OK, and the paint really is restorable, then of course it's worth $850. It will never be worth less than that. If it's really only the brakes that have grounded it, then a complete replacement won't be more than a few hundred dollars. A 96 is a great year, in my opinion, and the Portofino Red (that's what it is?) was a super color. I had one. It might be a great find.

I would offer $650 in person. I would however check that the motor will turn over, title in hand look under for rust. Check for damage at the front and rear end as both bumpers are off. If it’s a rust free truck I would grab it at the 750-775 range

also I part out these trucks so I would buy it any day of the week lol

How should I check that the motor will turn over? There is also no title. She said she lost it, but that isn’t a big deal here in Tennessee as a bill of sale will get you a title pretty quickly.

I would take a good look for rust underneath, Especially the shock towers up front and the rear frame as those are particularly difficult spots. Sitting on the ground like it is will make the rust much worse when sitting over time.Also the electrical system can suffer too. The front bumper does look a bit troublesome but that could be from pulling it to it's resting spot and it may be an easy fix. You probably don't get the rust like we do in Minnesota so if it isn't too bad, I'd go for it (if the motor is what they say and it turns over) Take along a battery or jumper cables and see if it turns over or starts (?) but it could be a bit of a project. I am on my 2nd D1 and they are great once you get the bugs out of them. Looks like the heater controls are missing as is the radio.
I'd start with a ridiculously low price like $300 and go from there. just keep saying it needs a lot of work, and it is an almost 30 year old vehicle... Good luck!!
