Wow, you put in your 20 and then some. Thank you for that. My grandpa was a colonel in the marines for 30 years and my other was a captain in the Cambodian military who are allies with America.

Thank you for signing up to serve and protect my family. I tried two times to sign up and was rejected due to cat allergies. Bummer cause I scored an almost perfect score on the ASVAB which is what I needed to do what I wanted to do. Lots of cats in the cockpit of a jet you know.

But I digress.

Congrats and again thank you.

I have no desire to ever join the armed forces by choice, and thankfully, there are others that will join, which allows me the freedom to remain a civilian. My hat is off to those that make it all possible.

Caleb,

Congratulations to you my young friend. Sounds like you are definitely in far some adventures. Just like both your grandfathers.

My father served in the USMC during WWII all over the West Pacific. My oldest brother served in the Army 1968-1971. I served in the Navy 1971-1975 as an Aviation Electrician on the Vigilante RA5C recon plane doing flight controls and instrumentation. I went thru two years of advanced avionics schools in that time and was on board the USS Kennedy on a Med cruise, then our squadron was assigned to the USS Saratoga, and just before getting out was on the initial shakedown cruise of the USS Nimitz, the first nukie carrier in the fleet. We went from sea trials in GetMo Bay to a joint NATO exercise inside the Artic Circle in December.

I got to visit some very interesting places and got a good start that lead to a varied career in the Defense Industries working on projects including Ga Tech Experimental Engineering Station building radar trainers for the USAF reverse engineering captured Soviet equipment, the MX Missile R&D at Martin Marieeta in Denver, ten years of production of the TOMAHAWK CRUISE MISSILE program for McDonnell Douglas in the Space Coast region of Florida working as a Manufacturing Engineer then a Reliability Specialist doing failure analysis.

Without that initial start, those programs would not have been something a Redneck Cracker from a little town in Georgia would have ended up doing.

Go chase your dreams and may the sky be the limit.

[quote=calebbo;314355]Wow, that's pretty cool. I was going to go in as an aviation mechanic. The Reserves you get to choose your MOS but based off of what is available to you in your recruiters area. I can eventually move around but with only 4 years what's the point? I chose AAV Crewman because it seemed to be cool and fun, that's what I'm looking for in the next 4 years before I shoot for an Air Contract with PLC to become a pilot once I graduate. And why did you get out? If you don't mind me asking.

quote]

I got out for several reasons. Mainly because I didnt want to go to war again. After two tours in Iraq during the earlier part of the war i grew tiired of getting shot at and not getting to shot back. My wife wanted to make sure I would be home more often even thought the bitch left me. For me being a marine was about how good you did your job and I was really good, for the corps it turned into how good you looked doing your job. Haircuts twice a week, Uniform inspections, starching and pressing our work coveralls, having to hide my tattoos because they stuck out under the sleeves of my pt shirts. It just got very political not to mention there were so many marines in when I was in the promotions slowed down to pratically nothing. I do miss it, the brotherhood, the parties, the overall fun we had.

Congrats! Sounds like you have a lot of interesting, fun adventures ahead! Us older dudes will still be here, waiting to hear about it and tinkering with our trucks.

Cheers!

The one piece of advice i can give you is to get use to referring to your self in the 3rd person. In Boot camp there are no "me's, I's, or Mine's. Its "this recruit" or "recruit schmuckatelly" Have fun!

When did you stop being one?

Never thought I'd read/hear a Marine call himself "former Marine". Oh well.

Hey Cale, good luck man, bootcamp is easy and fun you'll have a blast.

When you're done you'll have many borthers and sisters out there.

Coolest thing was seeing one of my good bros that I haven't seen in over 10yrs.

YUT!!!
