Great... Check Engine Light is on.
I started it up this am to let it warm up before work, and no check engine light upon start. Five minis later, I get in to drive to my office, and it's on. Fluids are good, and it's still purring like a kitten, and running like normal (atleast at this point).. The light has me concerned.
Can someone possibly list a few common reasons for the light coming on? I have no other lights showing except the occasional antilock light. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's something simple. |
Stop by a parts house and have them read the code. Anything in the world can throw the code. From a loose gas cap to a bad part.
If it is ever flashing, you need to shut it down, otherwise it is ok to drive to the parts house. Get the 4 digit code and post it up here. Should be a PXXXX.. |
Will an autozone be able to read the code? Dont have a whole lotta parts places here.
Not flashing... so i guess thats a positive. It has been raining here for the last few days... which isnt normal. I'm sure water could have something to do w/ it as well. It's gonna bug the hell out of me |
yes autozone will read it for you
|
Okay... it's showing 3 codes.
P0300 - Random cylinder misfire P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire detected P1316 - Manufact. control ignition sys. or misfire Any input... Where do I go from here? I cant hear a misfire |
I just read that the P1316 code is Misfire Excessive Emissions Fault... still clueless
|
whats the mileage on your truck? have you done any maitenance?
|
Mileage is 124,000... I have only done the basics (fluids). And I have no records of anything done prior to me owning it, so I assume nothing has been done, but could be wrong. The plugs and wires actually look new.... that was one of my first thoughts.
|
are they 8mm wires? are you losing coolant?
|
I'm not losing any coolant... although I would like a new coolant resi. Mine makes it hard to see the level... I'm not sure of the diameter of the wires without running out a double checking, and well, it's raining. I went back to vatozone and cleared the codes. I drove around for about 30 mins and no light yet. It's weird because I've never heard it misfire. If it did, it did it while it was warming up this am and I missed it.
Wondering if all this moisture had anything to do with it.... or if maybe I'm gonna need to look into getting my heads redone next year??? |
