How to input 5 digit radio code
My 95 has a stock radio that needs the 5 digit code entered. I have the code on a piece of paper but I find conflicting methods on the interwebz on how to enter it. Any tips on the method? The radio beeps after 4 buttons are pressed...
Thanks! |
Quickly enter your code, the radio should come to life.

What steps have you taken? Below are 2 examples of what I've found off the web...btw, change out your head unit and you'll be happier.
OK. Step 1 successfully completed. I left the key in the accessory position for an hour, punched in the 5 digit code and the radio is now operational. Who would have thought that the button marked "WB" would take me to the Weather Band. I didn't even know we had one here. Seems to be broken, though. All they say is "Snow, snow, snow". This brings me to question #2. There's a 6 disc CD player (Factory installed) under the drivers seat. I've never owned one of these. How "should" a remote CD player typically be accessed/controlled by the head unit? I'm not sure it works at all, as pushing the button to eject the CD cassette seems to have no effect. I read that if you mess up putting in the code that i makes you wait 1 minute.... then if you try to enter it again before that minute is up... it makes you wait 2 minutes.. then 4, then 8... and so on..... So, if you goofed the first time (or every time) it would be doubling the minutes that you would need to wait (with the radio ON, showing code) before trying it again.... If the vehicle is running then the battery has nothing to do with it... now when you turn it off.... and it looses it's code... then that is a different story!.... wish you luck! |
After I called multiple dealerships they all said the following;Turn your ignition to accessory level II and leave it there for 90 minutes. Then, simply input the radio code using the radio preset numbers and, "Voila!" Hope this helps

Thanks for the input. I'll do the 90 minute ignition on and report back.

I did the 90 minute trick and that worked. Thanks!

Great thread & timing. I'm having a similar issue after I took the center dash out to replace the blower fan switch a couple of days ago. I've not had issues with the code before. I tried leaving the battery disconnected for several hours and that did not work. Will try the 90 minute trick next. I tried to enter my code several times so I wonder how much time I've accumulated LOL.

Hmmm, maybe the '96 is different. I just turn on the ignition and immediately enter the code and it works. Sometimes I enter it after I start the engine and am driving down the road, and it works then too.
