Very helpful video! So going by the video, the part which I have identified to be damaged is the "snap ring seat". Can this end pieace be replaced without replacing the entire driveshaft?
And yes we were very lucky to make the trip safety. The joints were noticeably bad until we got down into New York city, then they just got worse from their. I guess the Auto Gods blessed me and my Rover that day. |
if the cap from the end that slipped out is still in the yolk then i would think the yolk would still be ok, I can't see it being beyond useing it unless it was completly broke or the hole that the cap goes in was reamed out, and if the cap is still in it you should be good.

I successfully removed the complete rear driveshaft from my disco. The work was relitivily easy, and using a turbo torch on the bolts really made loosening them with a wrench much easier! So here are the pics. From what I see I'm pretty sure that replacing the entire shaft would be best. But I'm open to everyone's opinion.

I'd replace it. You can probably get a decent one for $75 at a local salvage yard.
Maybe even this one: General Auto Salvage Company, Inc. USA-NH(Claremont) 1-800-562-384 |
Yea looks pretty beat. Check your options, I'm sure there are plenty of used driveshafts to be had, check the for sale section of the forums for someone parting out a disco.
